Our children have large spaces on the field and playground for energetic play each day. Equipment is available for them to practise movement skills, climbing, balancing and negotiating space as well as taking turns. Time is set aside each week to work on indoor skills and the Reception children have two hours of taught PE each week. A Sports Coach takes the Reception children for one hour of that time. In the Autumn and Summer, the Reception children are given the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular activities after school. Reception children have the opportunity of taking part in competitions and festivals with other primary schools in the Hope Valley Cluster. We welcome groups into school to provide extra activities such as ‘All Stars Cricket’.

Impact
Assessment
Teachers and the Sports Coach use a range of on-going assessment for learning techniques, to gain information about the children’s development. This allows them to adapt their planning as necessary. This is shared with parents by an annual school report and verbally too, at parents’ meetings twice a year.
The subject leader for Physical Education undertakes monitoring activities during the year that include discussions with children, teaching staff, the Sports Coach and learning walks.
